Are
you a Cyber-coachable Runner?
Internet
based coaching
is not for everyone. However, chances are if you
are
reading this, you may be a good candidate for our service. Based
on experience, cyber-coachable runners have some or all of the
following
traits and qualities:
1. Has regular
access to the
Internet.
Regular e-mail contact, at least once per week, is necessary to develop
the athlete-coach relationship. Coaching is much more than
dictating
a pat set of standard workouts without any feedback. The
cyber-coachable
runner should be checking his or her e-mail a minimum of 3 or 4 times
per
week.
2. Runs alone
for all or most
of his or her workouts. The
e-mail
contact and feedback with a cyber-coach may be the missing ingredient
in
the road to improvement.
3. Runs and/or
works at odd hours;
has a busy schedule. A non-standard work or
running
schedule makes it difficult to meet with a regular training group. The
asynchronous nature of e-mail works well for a runner who can post a
message
at an odd hour of the day and receive the reply at another time
convenient
to him or her.
4. Articulates well written
thoughts and feelings. Meaningful
e-mail
exchanges require more
than just "yes" and "no" answers.
5. Is
inner-directed and goal
oriented. An internet based coach
cannot
be "in your face and on your case" as much as a face-to-face
coach.
Moreover, avoiding your cyber-coach is as easy as pressing the delete
button
on your browser.
6. Has at least
a minimal base
of running knowledge. Extremely detailed
explanations
are cumbersome using e-mail. Pure beginning runners are best
advised
to sign up for a learn-to-run clinic.
7. Is willing
to pay for sound
advice and guidance. Cyber
coaches
need to pay their bills too!!!
