Links

Every decent running page on the Web has an obligatory links section. This being the case, here is our shot at it. The following list is by no means comprehensive, but you may find a "gooder" that you haven't seen before.

 General Running Sites
Runner's World Online is an excellent source of both archived information on running and daily news. The section on identifying and treating injuries is particularly useful.

Let's Run  is another excellent source of up-to-date running information.  Its message board is often lively, frequently impolite, but never dull.

Sport and Performance has a number of easy to read articles about the basics of exercise physiology.  Check out the ESTIMATE YOUR POTENTIAL section; there are a number of interesting performance calculators (e.g ideal weight, VO2 Max, etc.)

Kids Running.com the name says it all - a treasure trove of advice, news, and resources for children, parents, and teachers.

Cool Running is another great source of up-to-date running news with a bit of a Northeastern US focus.

Scott Douglas'  web site has interesting articles about running and other stuff.  Douglas is the former editor of the Running Times and co-author of one of the best training books ever written, Road Racing for Serious Runner. Free of any outside editorial control, many of the articles on this site showcase Scott's humorous and cynical side.

The IAAF site is the first place to go for up-to-the-minute results of major athletics events such as the World Championships or Grand Prix meets. The site also has a number of interviews and profiles of major international track and field stars.

The Boston Marathon is the grand daddy of all marathons and the recreationally competitive runners equivalent of the Olympics. Hey, when you've qualified for Boston, you achieved something, baby!!

Hillrunner.com is a newsy little site with lots of great up-to-date and archived running news.

About.com Running is a portal which contains a directory of many good running sites along with a free e-mail newsletter.  The site is hosted by Thomas Woodrow.

Run-Down   formerly known a Dan Kaplan.com, is another mega-monster collection of links and other running resources.  The layout is very easy to navigate; the site has a Yahoo feel to it.

Advantage Athletics is mostly a collection of track and field links, but there are a number of running-only sites listed. One of the neat features of the site is the section on drills - there are series of photographs showing how to properly execute the drills.

The San Diego Track Clubis another San Diego based site (who'd of thunk it?) which gives a good run down of track and field and road running in the Southern California area.

Ultra Runner.net is your source for news, results, and entry forms for American ultra-marathons.

Frank Horwill is a British coach who invented the 5 pace theory popularized by Seb Coe.  This link is a collection of his articles.  Please note, while Horwill goes a bit overboard on the "intensity" side of training, he does raise some interesting ideas.

Leg Pylometrics is an article by another British coach, Brian MacKenzie.  Each exercise is fully illustrated.

The Sports Arena is a mega-directory of sports and recreation sites

The Arthur Lydiard Foundation site is dedicated to spreading the ideas of the world's greatest running coach, Arthur Lydiard.

RunningFan.com is a directory of links to many great sites of interest to runners.

Canadian Sites
Athletics Canada is the Canadian equivalent of the IAAF site; a good starting point to keeping up-to-date on the Canuck athletics scene.

Athletics Alberta is the provincial governing body for track and field and road running in the Province of Alberta.

Alberta Master's Athletics  gives you the run down on the Master's track and field scene in Alberta.  It also has some great links to other national and international Master's sites.

Leduc Track Club  has a bunch of information about track and field in Alberta and beyond.  In the RECORDS section, there is a list of Canadian national standards (Seniors, Juniors, Legion, etc.) plus a link to a Mercier Tables calculator.

The Running Room  is Canada's leading running store. Sure, this site will try to sell you something, but it's also a great source of information on upcoming Canadian races and road racing results.

Calgary Roadrunners is the Stampede City's largest and most established road running club. This site contains a wealth of information about road running, track, and cross country events in and around Calgary.

Trackie.ca is a good site for Canadian track and field and x-c results.  Its interview section is interesting, and the message board can be fun as well.  Please note, it has a bit of a Maritimes focus.

Runner's Web  has some original content and news about running and triathlon. In addition, it's a portal to a number of other running and tri sites.

Local Sites
Wolves Cross Country Running  tells you all about the mighty Grande Prairie Regional College cross country program (as you might expect), but it also has some local results and some helpful information for x-c runners.

The Wapiti Strider's Running Club is the definitive source of information about road running in the Peace Country.

Kelvin's Mountain Running Page  (now known as MountainRunning.com) appears on this list because we promised Kelvin that we'd link to his page. In any event, if you want to find out about trail and mountain running in Alberta, Kelvin's your man.

Wapiti Nordic Ski Club  is the Peace Country's  finest nordic skiing facility; find out about the next best sport to running: x-c skiing.
