How to Improve: Two simple Words

Run More!
This may be the least elegant, but most helpful, article you'll ever read about distance running.  The simple fact is that the vast majority of recreational and recreationally competitive runners would if improve if they spent more time running.

So until you're running at least 6 times per week and spending at least 6 hours per week running, you should be considering the Run More plan ... as opposed to the Do More Speedwork or Do More Cross Training or Do More Core Strength plans.

And even if you're running 6 times a week, consider that at a minimum, world class male marathoners are putting in a 110 miles per week.  That's much more than 6 hours per week.

Now speedwork, flexibility, and core strength are important, but good old fashion training volume trumps them all.
